Following the Red Raiders’ second consecutive Round of 16 appearance, men’s basketball forward Alex Van Kalsbeek was honored as a Second Team All-American by the NAIA.
Van Kalsbeek started 27 games this year, averaging 21.8 points per contest, the second-highest average of his career. He also grabbed 6.8 rebounds per game and shot the ball at an efficient 67.0%. The fifth-year hometown athlete finished the year eighth in the NAIA in field goal percentage and was third in the GPAC in scoring average.
In January, Van Kalsbeek became Northwestern’s all-time leading scorer, passing Brandon Woudstra ’03. After four full seasons, he totaled 2,682 points taking over the previous record of 2,478 points. With 897 career rebounds, Van Kalsbeek is sixth in program history.
