Dahl Named Assistant Coach Of The Year

The 2023 American Volleyball Coaches Association has announced its 2023 NAIA national honors and former assistant coach Dillon Dahl has been named the AVCA NAIA National Assistant Coach of the Year for the recently completed men’s 2023 season.

Dahl completed his two-year stint at Dordt while assisting both the women’s and men’s programs and has since taken a full-time assistant job at Black Hills State University (South Dakota). Dahl’s primary responsibilities were opponent scouting, recruiting, skills development and stats analysis.

“Dillon has been a tremendous contributor to our program over these two years. During his time as an assistant coach, he worked closely with both the men’s and women’s volleyball programs, helping each one to a national ranking in the coaches’ polls. What impresses me most about Dillon is that he entered our program as a coach who had very little personal experience in the sport of volleyball, but he was hungry to learn and apply what he was learning. Even in his final weeks of working with our men’s team, Dillon was offering new ideas for training, drills, and scouting opposing teams,” said Dordt men’s volleyball coach Chad Hanson. “He is on a great trajectory of gaining coaching knowledge, applying what he’s learning, and connecting with the athletes while supporting the head coach and institution. He works tirelessly, makes himself available to serve others and does so with joy. As Dillon graduates with his master’s degree from our program and moves on to full-time coaching at Black Hills State, we will miss him and wish him God’s richest blessings.”

The 2023 men’s Dordt team had its best season ever with a 16-4 overall record and an 8-2 GPAC mark. The team advanced to the finals of the GPAC Tournament for the first time in program history.
