The Great Akron Scarecrow Festival will take place at Akron City Park, bringing together regional vendors, family entertainment, and a signature decorating contest. The event is Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with free admission to the park.
Event Schedule
- 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.: Open scarecrow contest registration at the park info booth (no pre-registration required).
- 10:00 a.m.: Festival opens; scarecrow judging begins.
- 12:00 p.m.: Contest winners announced across youth (up to 5th grade), teen (6th–12th grade), and adult/business divisions.
- 2:00 p.m.: Public scarecrow auction.
Attractions & Vendors
- Marketplace: Over 70 regional vendors featuring handmade crafts, jewelry, sourdough, baked goods, and home products.
- Nature’s Harvest Stand: Operated by members of the Friendship and Service Club, selling homemade baked items, fresh produce, and crafts.
- Family Activities: Ticketed children’s games, face painting, bouncy houses, a petting zoo, and a kiddie train.
- Decorating Contest: Draws 40 to 50 entries annually made from traditional items, recycled goods, household appliances, and media characters, competing for $1,000 in total prize money.
History
Organized by the 40-member Friendship and Service Club, the event started in 2000 as a consolidated fundraiser. The festival raises between $10,000 and $12,000 annually, with all proceeds donated back to local schools and civic projects.
