Several fire departments are responding to a hay-bale fire on Kennedy Avenue one mile west of Newkirk this afternoon. Unofficial information indicates about 80 bales of hay caught fire, and a propane tank exploded, all near a machine shed on the property. Hospers, Granville, Orange City, Alton, and Boyden Fire Departments have responded to the fire and are currently putting the blaze out. The fire was near a residence on the property which was evacuated. According to reports, a worker on the farm was injured and taken to the hospital with minor burns.
