Senior Fraud Prevention Workshop

October 27 @ 10:00am - 11:00am

Older adults can be prime targets for financial scams, and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Sioux County is offering a free workshop to help protect local seniors and caregivers. It’s called “Stay Independent: Spot, Stop and Report Fraud.” The program takes place Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the Sioux County Extension Office, 400 Central Ave. NW, Suite 700 in Orange City.

Attendees can choose from three different session times: 10–11 a.m., 3–4 p.m., or 5:30–6:30 p.m.

The workshop is designed to raise awareness about frauds and scams, why older adults are often targeted, and how to recognize warning signs. Organizers say, “We update the curriculum often to reflect new information on frauds and scams, and how to prevent them.” It’s part of the Stay Independent Healthy Aging series and focuses on practical ways to protect personal finances.

The program is free, thanks to the Sioux County Extension District. To register, call 712‑737‑4230 on or before October 23, 2026.
