The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) announced its weekly awards for men’s volleyball.
Robert Piekarz of Dordt University is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Defender-of-the-Week. Piekarz claims the weekly honor for the third time this season.
Piekarz, a sophomore from Warsaw, Poland, helped lead the 14th-ranked Defenders to a 3-1 record last week in California, including a 3-2 over Merced, a team earning votes in the latest poll. He totaled 47 digs, averaging 3.6 per set, and was nearly perfect in serve receive with just two errors in 61 attempts. Piekarz ranks fifth in the NAIA in digs per set this season (3.52)
Dordt heads into the final week of the regular season in a tie for first place with Jamestown at 7-1, 14-2. The Defenders, ranked 14th in the latest NAIA Coaches’ poll, will play two road matches, at Morningside Thursday, and at Ottawa Saturday before the conference tournament begins on March 29 with the semifinals.
