(KIWA) — Lyon County residents are being asked to help shape future education and outreach efforts for the Blood Run National Historic Landmark.

University of Iowa students working with the nonprofit Friends of Blood Run are seeking responses to a short survey about residents’ awareness of the site and the information they would find most useful.

According to project materials, Blood Run served as a historic home of the Oneota culture from approximately 1500 to 1720 A.D. The northwest Iowa landmark holds cultural and historical significance, and Friends of Blood Run works to conserve and protect its lands and preserve its stories for future generations.

The survey asks what Lyon County residents know about Blood Run, what information and resources would be valuable to them, and how Friends of Blood Run could strengthen its outreach and community connections.

The student team plans to use the responses to develop recommendations for future communication, education, and public engagement efforts.

Olivia Boeglin, a University of Iowa Marketing Institute student, says local perspectives are essential to the team’s work to build awareness and support for the landmark. She encourages residents to take a few minutes to share their thoughts.

The survey is available online through the University of Iowa’s Qualtrics platform.
