(KIWA Radio) — Four old mobile homes and a grove were damaged in a fire early Wednesday morning near Sioux Center, with lightning believed to be the cause.
Fire Reported Before Dawn
According to Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland, the Sioux Center Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 5:10 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, to a report of a large grove fire at 3710 Elmwood Avenue, located about six miles west of Sioux Center and two miles north.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found heavy flames in the grove and multiple mobile homes burning.
Multiple Agencies Respond
Van Holland says firefighters worked to contain the blaze with assistance from local heavy equipment operators using an excavator and payloader.
The Sioux Center Fire Department received mutual aid from the Rock Valley, Ireton, and Hull fire departments.
Firefighters remained on scene for just under four hours before the incident was brought under control.
No Injuries Reported
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
According to Van Holland, four old mobile homes and a portion of the grove sustained damage. He says the overall dollar value of the damage was considered minimal.
Lightning Believed Responsible
Van Holland says the fire appears to have been caused by lightning, which moved through portions of Northwest Iowa during overnight storms.
The incident remains under investigation.
