Republican gubernatorial candidate and Fourth District Congressman Randy Feenstra cast his ballot Tuesday afternoon ahead of Iowa’s June 2nd GOP primary, voting alongside his wife, Lynette, and youngest daughter, Savannah, at the Sioux County Courthouse in Orange City.
Feenstra told reporters after voting that he was excited to share the moment with his family, especially as Savannah cast her first ballot.
On social media, Feenstra noted that Savannah voted for her father in her first election.
The Orange City stop also carried personal significance for Feenstra. Before serving in Congress, he worked as Sioux County Treasurer in the same courthouse where he voted Tuesday. Feenstra has often pointed to his northwest Iowa upbringing and local government experience as shaping his approach to leadership.
Feenstra grew up in Hull, later served as Hull City Administrator, taught business at Dordt University, and eventually chaired the Iowa Senate Ways and Means Committee before being elected to Congress.
During Tuesday’s stop, Feenstra encouraged Iowans to participate in the primary election process.
When asked about his campaign priorities, Feenstra pointed to property tax relief, workforce retention, education, and health care access as key issues in the race for governor.
The congressman said he voted early because he plans to continue traveling across Iowa in the days leading up to the primary election, including campaign stops in Fort Dodge, Sergeant Bluff, Council Bluffs, and eastern Iowa. Feenstra said his focus in recent weeks has been on hearing directly from voters across the state.
The visit to Sioux County also came one day after Feenstra returned to his hometown of Hull to serve as the featured speaker for the community’s Memorial Day ceremony honoring veterans and fallen service members.
Feenstra is one of five Republicans seeking the GOP nomination for governor in Iowa’s June 2nd primary election.
