Inwood Community Center Roof Collapses

The city of Inwood suffered a big loss Saturday night after part of the community center roof collapsed. City officials believe heavy snowfall was in large part, a contributing factor in the 35-year-old building’s collapse.

The building houses a gym that’s typically in use on Saturday nights, but was not occupied at the time of the collapse. The building also houses the city’s public library and city offices.

Officials say the next step is obtaining an inspection and for insurance to assess the building with the hopes of trying to preserve as much of the original community center as they can.

City council-member and volunteer firefighter, Rick Rozeboom says it’s one of the most important buildings in the city. He says they’ll do their best to continue the activities they did there in different locations throughout town until everything is sorted out.

City officials say the community center will remain closed during this time.
