Two Orange City Men Injured in Crash Near Boyden

Two Orange City men were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a collision southeast of Boyden Friday afternoon.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at 4:24 p.m. October 9 at the intersection of Jay Avenue and 360th Street, four miles southeast of Boyden.

Nicholas Wielenga, 36, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado north on Jay Avenue. Richard Dean Kooiker, 65, was driving a 1978 Mack truck east on 360th Street, pulling a 2020 Meyer trailer loaded with silage.

The sheriff’s office says Wielenga failed to yield at the intersection, and the vehicles collided.

Hull Ambulance transported Wielenga to Sioux Center Hospital for treatment. Kooiker was taken to the same hospital by private vehicle. Both men’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

The Chevrolet sustained an estimated $15,000 in damage, while damage to the Mack was estimated at $25,000.

Wielenga was cited for failure to yield.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Boyden Fire Department, Boyden Ambulance, Hull Ambulance, Orange City Ambulance, and the Iowa State Patrol.
