Sioux Center Man Charged with Criminal Mischief Following Police Incident

A Sioux Center man faces a felony charge after allegedly intentionally urinating inside a police vehicle and at the Sioux Center Police Department following a September 29th traffic stop.

30-year-old Saul Rodriguez-Hernandez is charged with second-degree criminal mischief involving publicly owned property, a Class D felony.

According to a criminal complaint filed October 2nd in Sioux County District Court, police stopped Rodriguez-Hernandez near 12th Street Northeast and 13th Avenue Northeast in Sioux Center after observing his pickup swerve and squeal its tires. The complaint states the pickup’s rear license plate lights were not working and that he drove onto the curb while stopping.

Police allege Rodriguez-Hernandez later smoked inside a patrol vehicle and refused instructions to extinguish his cigarette. According to the complaint, he also refused to leave the vehicle, prompting officers to remove him. A brief physical struggle followed, and officers placed him in handcuffs.

The complaint alleges Rodriguez-Hernandez intentionally urinated on the patrol vehicle’s seat and on the floor at the police department. The filing does not provide a dollar estimate for damage or cleanup.

Sioux Center Police arrested Rodriguez-Hernandez on October 10th, according to jail booking information. His bond was listed at $5,000 cash or surety, and the booking record shows he was released through a bondsman that same day.
