ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The National Awards Committee and Small College Basketball reduced its Bevo Francis Award Watch List, with Northwestern’s Alex Van Kalsbeek being named among 50 players across NCAA DII and DIII, NAIA, USCAA, and NCCAA men’s basketball.
In 24 games played this season, Van Kalsbeek has led the Raiders in scoring at 21.8 points per game, also grabbing 7.1 rebounds per game and making 67.0% of his shots. His scoring average is third in the GPAC, while his shooting percentage sits second in the conference. He holds Northwestern’s career scoring record with 2,616 points in 122 career games.
It is the third time that Van Kalsbeek has been recognized in the top 50, also receiving the honor in 2022 and 2023. He is one of four GPAC players to be named to the list.
The watch list will be reduced to 25 players on March 15. Finalists will be announced on April 5, with the 2025 Bevo Francis Award presented on April 7.
The Bevo Francis Award was created in 2015 and is named after Clarence “Bevo” Francis, who played two seasons at what is now the University of Rio Grande (Ohio). The award is presented annually to a player who has had the finest overall season in small college basketball.
