Douma and Metzger Receive Back-to-Back Academic All-America Awards

AUSTIN, Texas – Northwestern volleyball student-athletes Jazlin Douma and Zavyr Metzger have been selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America First Team.

Douma and Metzger are Northwestern’s third and fourth repeat Academic All-America winners and the program’s first two-time members of the CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-America First Team.

“Both Jazlin and Zavyr are great examples of being a student-athlete,” head coach Kyle Van Den Bosch said. “They are both very talented and have coupled that with a strong desire to be excellent on the court and in their field of study. To be a two-time Academic All-American for both of them is quite a special honor.”

Douma, a physical education major from Orange City, Iowa, closed her career as one of the best to wear Raider Red. The senior won the 2024 GPAC Player of the Year award, receiving it for the second consecutive year. A First Team NAIA All-American in 2023 and 2024, Douma put up 490 kills for a 4.38 kills per set average, leading the conference in both categories and sitting 10th in the NAIA in kills per set. In Northwestern’s GPAC championship win over Concordia, Douma set a new program record with 33 kills. She ended her Northwestern career with 1,393 kills, 223 blocks, and 978 digs in three seasons.

A nursing major from Larchwood, Iowa, Metzger had another dominant year in the middle, leading the country in blocks per set (1.75). She led the Raiders to the top blocking average in the NAIA (3.18), putting up 198 total blocks to bring her career total to 437 ahead of her senior year. Her career blocks total currently ranks seventh in Northwestern history. Metzger was also named an NAIA All-American for the first time in her career, being named to the NAIA Second Team and was the GPAC’s Co-Defender of the Year.
