Sioux Center man sentenced for Trespass, and child pornography

A Sioux Center man has been sentenced for Trespass, and child pornography. Sioux County attorney Thomas Kunstle, announced that 40 year old Peter Jason VanKley of Sioux Center, was sentenced Tuesday Sioux County District Associate Court for the crimes of [1] Trespass – Intentionally Viewing Another, a Serious Misdemeanor, and [2] Sexual Exploitation Of A Minor – Possession of a Minor In Sex Act, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.

The case arose on September 3, 2021, stemming from a report to police of a suspicious man peeking into a residence’s bathroom window. Police fielded multiple similar complaints throughout September of 2021. A residential security camera was installed, capturing VanKley peering into a residence on September 26, leading to his arrest for trespass. Further investigation led to police executing a search warrant on VanKley’s cell phone. The phone contained a video depicting a prepubescent minor engaging in a sexual act. Sexual Exploitation charges were filed on July 28, 2023.

On January 4, 2024 VanKley pled guilty to both crimes. The Court sentenced VanKley to a prison sentence not to exceed two years, which was suspended, while VanKley was ordered to complete probation with the Department of Corrections. VanKley was further ordered to serve 30 days in jail, complete a psychosexual evaluation successfully completing any recommendations, register as a sex offender for a period of 10 years, pay criminal fines, and submit his DNA to the State. After VanKley’s probation, he was further ordered to complete a special 903B sentence of parole for a period of 10 years.
