Four fire departments were sent to the Centre Mall in Sioux Center early on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, for a fire call.
According to Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland, at about 5:00 a.m., the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to the report of a fire alarm and smell of smoke at the Centre Mall downtown.
The chief says the fire department saw smoke, and later flames coming from the roof as they approached the scene. He says they did an internal search and found some smoke in the Pizza Ranch portion of the building. They traced it to a bad HVAC unit on the roof. Van Holland says they ventilated the building with ventilation fans.
Van Holland says no injuries were reported.
The fire department was assisted by the Ireton, Orange City and Hull fire departments.
Chief Van Holland reports that damage was limited to the HVAC unit and some smoke damage in the building.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
