Republican gubernatorial candidate Randy Feenstra is highlighting new support from Iowa seniors, as a separate poll suggests he currently leads the Republican field ahead of the June 2nd primary.

Feenstra’s campaign announced Friday the launch of its “Retirees for Feenstra” coalition, a group made up of Iowa seniors and retirees backing his campaign. The campaign says the coalition supports Feenstra’s plan to cut and freeze property taxes, along with broader goals focused on economic growth and supporting Iowa communities.

In a statement, Feenstra said one of the top concerns he hears from seniors is the cost of remaining in their homes due to high property taxes, and he pledged to cut and freeze those taxes if elected governor.

The coalition includes 57 members statewide, with a strong showing from northwest Iowa. That includes 19 members from northwest Iowa counties, specifically Dickinson, O’Brien, Osceola, Sioux, and Woodbury, including seven members just from Sioux County.

The retirees coalition follows previously announced “Farmers for Feenstra” and “Students for Feenstra” groups.

Separately, a new survey conducted by Victory Enterprises indicates Feenstra holds a lead in the Republican race for governor.

According to the poll, support among likely Republican primary voters breaks down as follows:

Randy Feenstra — 41.2%
Adam Steen — 8.8%
Zach Lahn — 8.2%
Brad Sherman — 4.8%
Eddie Andrews — 4.6%
Undecided — 31.2%

Victory Enterprises says Feenstra also leads in each of Iowa’s four congressional districts, including 35% in the 4th District, 31% in the 1st District, 26% in the 2nd District, and 25% in the 3rd District.

The survey was conducted on April 14th and 15th among 500 likely Republican primary voters via live operator on both wireless and landline numbers. The margin of error is ±4.4 % at the 95% confidence level.

Feenstra is one of five Republicans seeking their party’s nomination for governor in Iowa’s June 2nd primary.
