Two people were arrested Sunday as a result of a traffic stop near Ireton.
21-year-old Geraldo Lopez-Lopez, and 31-year-old Ismael Lopez-Lopez, both of Sioux City, were arrested after giving false information to the deputy during the stop. The deputy also discovered open containers of alcohol in the vehicle, and the driver, Geraldo, was in possession of a fictitious identification card. In addition, both had warrants out of Woodbury County for their arrests.
Upon further investigation, a police K-9 alerted to the odor of illegal drugs inside the vehicle. A crystal substance was found in the vehicle that later tested positive for methamphetamine. More false identification documents, including a false Social Security card, were also found inside the vehicle. Deputies also found Geraldo was also under the influence of a drug other than alcohol.
Both were taken to the Sioux County Jail where Geraldo was charged with obstructing prosecution, possession of methamphetamine, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated; additionally, he was cited for a speed violation, no liability insurance and possession of a false identification card.
Ismael was charged with obstructing prosecution and forgery. He was also cited for open container of alcohol in a vehicle and possession of a false identification card.
The sheriff’s office K-9 Rocky assisted in the investigation.
