(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) has announced the Men’s Tennis All-Conference selections for 2023.
Jorge Chevez from Doane has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men’s Tennis Player-of-the-Year, while Bruno Campos from Midland is the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men’s Tennis Coach-of-the-Year.
Four individual Red Raiders garnered 2022-23 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) All-Conference honors. Brian VandenBerg and David Bomgaars highlight the All-Conference teams with honorable mention honors for both singles and doubles play this season.
BRIAN VANDENBERG – HONORABLE MENTION SINGLES
Posting a 6-10 mark at No. 1 singles this season lands VandenBerg (Sr., Mason City, Iowa) Honorable Mention All-Conference honors for the senior. It marks career honor number three for the Mason City, Iowa native, after earning All-Conference nods in 2021-22.
Three matches into the season in the fall, VandenBerg made the transition to No. 1 position where he posted an 8-11 overall record.
DAVID BOMGAARS – HONORABLE MENTION SINGLES
For the second-consecutive season, Bomgaars (So., Aurora, Colo.) is collecting Honorable Mention honors from the league office. The sophomore compiled a singles record of 10-9 on the season, playing 16 of his 19 matches at No. 1 with an 8-8 mark.
As well for Bomgaars, it marks back-to-back seasons earning Honorable Mention accolades for singles play.
BRIAN VANDENBERG / ARTHUR VICENTE – HONORABLE MENTION DOUBLES
The duo of VandenBerg and Arthur Vicente (Fr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) garner Honorable Mention All-Conference honors for their play as a pair this season. The pair posted a 10-6 mark on the season, playing all their matches together at No. 2.
It marks the second-straight year, and second of his career, for VandenBerg earning doubles recognition. For Vicente, in his first season at Northwestern, posted an overall doubles record of 11-8.
DAVID BOMGAARS / LEANDRO COSTA – HONORABLE MENTION DOUBLES
The doubles duo of Bomgaars and Leandro Costa (Fr., Caratinga, Brazil) earn Honorable Mention All-GPAC honors for their play at No. 1 doubles most of the season. Overall, the duo posted an 11-8 record together, while posting a 9-7 mark at No. 1 and 2-1 at No. 2.
For Bomgaars, it’s his second-straight season also earning Honorable Mention doubles accolades. And for Costa, in his first season at Northwestern, he garners the honors with Bomgaars.
