Two Dordt football players named All-American

The 2024 AFCA NAIA Coaches’ All America Teams have been announced and Dordt’s Lucas Huttinga (Senior; Jenison, Michigan) was named to the First Team and Nathan Warner (Senior; Glencoe, Minnesota) is on the Third Team. Earlier this season both were named to the Great Plains Athletic Conference First Team.

Huttinga had three interceptions and broke up six passes while accounting for 32 solo and 17 assisted tackles. He was part of a defensive unit that allowed less than 100 yards per game of rushing offense, 182 yards of passing offense and 256 totals yards of total offense per game. The Defenders allowed 12.2 points per game which was ranked third in the NAIA and Dordt was third in the nation in rushing yards per game allowed as well.

“Lucas has been a steady presence on our defense. As a three-year starter he has been a top tackler and a great cover player on a nationally ranked defense. Lucas turned down many great college options to be a Dordt Defender. If there was an All-American award for team leadership, Lucas should be first team on that as well,” said Dordt football coach Joel Penner.

Warner started all 10 games for the Defenders on the offensive line and helped Dordt gain 253 yards per game on the ground and 439 total yards per game. The Defenders scored 39.5 points per game and the Defenders ranked fifth in the NAIA in rushing yards per game and was 18th in points per game.

“Nathan is the model of a player developing over his career. Nathan started on our offensive line for three seasons. I believe much of his success on the field is attributed to his work ethic at practice and in the off-season. Nathan is as consistent and dependable as any player we’ve had play on the offensive line,” said Penner.

Dordt completed the 2024 season with and 8-2 record and tied the program record for regular season wins and tied for second in the GPAC.
