Mauldin Collects National Honors

Dordt University senior Payton Mauldin has been named the NAIA Men’s Indoor Track and Field Runner of the Week and also received the weekly award from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA). This past weekend at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite in Lincoln, Nebraska, he hit three qualifying marks and also set a school record.

With a school record 46.99 in the 400 meters, Mauldin finished second to Demar Francis of NCAA Division I Baylor who ran a 46.61. Mauldin’s mark is the fastest in the NAIA this season. He also has the season’s top NAIA times in the in the 600 meters and 800 meters. The other qualifying marks in Lincoln came in the 800 and as the anchor of the Defender 4×400 relay.

Mauldin has qualified for NAIA Indoor Nationals in a total of 6 events: As part of the Dordt 4×400 and 4×800 relays and individually in the 200, 400, 600 and 800 meters.

Mauldin is also this week’s Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men’s Track Athlete-of-the-Week.
