Two people were taken to the hospital after a crash involving a pickup and a farm tractor pulling a wagon on Wednesday near Maurice.
77-year-old Wayne Brink of Maurice, driving a tractor and pulling a loaded manure wagon was northbound on Grant Avenue. 27-year-old Cody Berkenpas of Struble was also northbound on Grant Avenue, driving a Chevrolet pickup. Berkenpas struck the manure wagon; the impact pushed Brink into the west ditch and Berkenpas into the east ditch.
Berkenpas was taken to Sioux Center Health, and later flown to Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls for further medical treatment. Brink reported minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to Orange City Area Health for treatment of minor injuries.
The Chevrolet received about $25,000 in damage; The tractor and wagon sustained an estimated $30,000 in damage.
Berkenpas was cited for failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle, failing to stop within assured clear distance and failure to use a seatbelt.
