Orange City Man Arrested Following Memorial Day Disturbance

An Orange City man was taken into custody Memorial Day evening following what authorities say began as a harassment complaint and escalated into a disturbance involving threats made in front of police officers.

According to a social media post from the Orange City Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Delaware Avenue Southwest at approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Authorities say officers spoke with the reporting party upon arrival, who identified 67-year-old Dale Steven Harvey of Orange City as the suspect in the investigation.

Police say that during the course of the investigation, Harvey allegedly became disruptive, caused a disturbance, and made multiple threats in the presence of officers.

According to authorities, when officers attempted to place Harvey under arrest, he allegedly tried to enter his residence. Officers prevented him from entering the home and, during the arrest, reportedly discovered a handgun on his person.

Court records show Harvey was charged with:

•Harassment in the 1st Degree (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
•Possession or Carrying Dangerous Weapons While Under the Influence (Serious Misdemeanor)
•Public Intoxication (Simple Misdemeanor)
•Disorderly Conduct – Loud Raucous Noise (Simple Misdemeanor)

Authorities say Harvey was transported to the Sioux County Jail and held on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. Jail records indicate he was released Tuesday after posting bond.
