A local gathering is planned this week as part of the National Day of Prayer, bringing people together for an evening of worship and reflection.
Organizers say the event will take place Thursday evening, May 7th, at Sheldon Living Water beginning at 6:30.
The event also coincides with two milestones—America’s 250th anniversary and the 75th year of the National Day of Prayer.
Theme ties to early American history
This year’s theme, “The Prayer at Valley Forge,” draws from a well-known image and story associated with George Washington during the winter encampment at Valley Forge.
The image, often depicted in paintings and retellings, shows Washington kneeling in prayer during a difficult period of the Revolutionary War. While historians note the story is rooted more in tradition than documented accounts, it has long been used to symbolize faith, perseverance, and leadership during challenging times.
Organizers say the theme reflects both the nation’s history and a continued need for wisdom and guidance today.
Speaker, worship planned
The evening will include worship music, guided prayer, and a message from Rob Rozeboom, founder of RISE Ministries.
Rozeboom says the National Day of Prayer offers a rare opportunity for people to pause and reflect together.
He adds that the event is part of a broader effort happening across the country.
Rozeboom notes similar gatherings will be held nationwide, while local organizers focus on bringing that same spirit to Sheldon.
Importance of prayer emphasized
Rozeboom says prayer remains central, especially during uncertain times both nationally and globally.
He also points to the belief that prayer can have a real impact.
Rozeboom says while answers may not always come in expected ways, many people see meaningful outcomes when they take time to pray and reflect.
Community invited to attend
Organizers say the event is open to the public and will include special music, including a quartet performance, along with time set aside for prayer and worship.
They encourage anyone interested to attend and take part in the evening.
