A northwest Iowa man charged in connection with a burglary investigation in Hull has pleaded guilty as part of a plea agreement and has now been sentenced to prison.
According to court records, 34-year-old Jakob Gamboa changed his plea to guilty on a charge of third-degree burglary. As part of the agreement, more serious charges of first-degree theft and second-degree criminal mischief were dismissed.
Investigation Began In February
The charges stem from a burglary investigation that began in late February. Authorities say stolen items were recovered during the execution of a search warrant at a home in Hull.
Court records indicate investigators recovered items from multiple residences connected to Gamboa and 33-year-old Jesse Van Leeuwen. The stolen property was believed to have come from a Hull business and was valued at more than $10,000.
Gamboa was originally charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony, along with Class D felony charges of second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree burglary.
Prison Sentence Handed Down
Court records show Gamboa has agreed to plead guilty only to the third-degree burglary charge. He was sentenced to a five-year prison term.
The case against Jesse Van Leeuwen remains ongoing. Court records indicate he previously pleaded not guilty to charges including first-degree theft, second-degree theft, second-degree criminal mischief, and third-degree burglary. Additional drug-related charges were also filed in the case.
Meanwhile, 60-year-old Jodi Van Leeuwen previously reached a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact. She was sentenced earlier this year to two days in the Sioux County Jail with credit for time served, along with seven days of electronic monitoring and work release.
Earlier Search Warrants
During the investigation, authorities also executed a search warrant at Jodi Van Leeuwen’s residence. According to court documents, law enforcement located a THC/cannabinoid vape device in a bedroom trash container.
Court records also alleged she assisted a person with active warrants by providing transportation and sending money while that individual was avoiding law enforcement.
The case remains ongoing for the remaining defendants.
