Northwestern College is opening its 2026–27 art exhibit season with ‘Prospective,’ a mixed‑media collection by recently retired art professor Phil Scorza. The exhibit is on display now through October 16 in the Te Paske Gallery.

A public reception is planned for Tuesday, September 15 at 7 p.m., featuring a gallery talk and Q&A with the artist.

Scorza’s large‑scale and multi‑paneled works are created from vintage photographs using pigment transfer, a process that lets him move the original image to a new surface and build depth with colored pencils, paint, and other materials. He says his work “captures a sense of longing and a bit of nostalgia… fitting for a moment of transition.”

Scorza retired in May after more than 20 years teaching graphic and digital design, developing Northwestern’s graphic design major and helping expand the department into four distinct programs.

Gallery hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays at the Korver Visual Arts Center, 214 8th Street SW in Orange City.
