USDA Summer EBT program launching this year

A new USDA program will increase access to nutritious food for more than 30 million children.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer Program for Children (Summer EBT) is being implemented in 36 states.

“You’re going to get a card.”  He says, “That card every month is going to have $40 on it per child. So, if you have two kids or three kids, it’s $80 or $120 worth of resources to that family each month for three months: June, July and August.”

He says the program fills a summertime gap for students.
