Tennessee planting continues at brisk pace

Despite some rains, Tennessee farmers continued planting corn at a brisk pace.

The USDA’s latest weekly crop progress and condition report shows 65% of corn is planted, up from 49% last week, and 1% ahead of the five-year average.  Corn emerged reached 32%.

Soybean planting increased 10% this week to 38% complete.  Well ahead of the five-year average of 18%.  Soybeans are 12% emerged.

Cotton is 16% planted, which is ahead of the five-year average of 8%. 

Winter wheat is 96% jointed, and 83% headed, with 79% rated in good to excellent condition. 

Topsoil moisture is 91%, and subsoil is 90% adequate to surplus.
