Rain slows Iowa planting progress

Significant rain brought planting to a halt across most of Iowa last week.

USDA’s latest weekly crop report says there were less than two days suitable for fieldwork as recent moisture resulted in some counties moving out of extreme to severe drought stages.

Ag Secretary Mike Naig says a stretch of sunshine and dry weather is needed as farmers are feeling anxious to resume planting.

Nearly half the intended corn acres are planted, but the pace is two days off the five-year average.
