No HPAI detections in Nebraska’s dairy herds

The president of Nebraska Farm Bureau says producers need to keep monitoring their dairy herds for symptoms of the H5N1 influenza virus.

Mark McHargue tells Brownfield state officials are watching the situation closely. “We do not have any positive tests in Nebraska,” he said, “but the conversation seems to be continuing to ramp up, though as we have potential concerns for spread and looking at how we mitigate that.”

The virus has been detected in cows in nine states.  USDA has implemented mandatory testing for interstate movement of dairy cattle as well as mandatory reporting of positive results to limit the spread of the disease.
