IL planting progress creeps forward

Planting progress in Illinois made modest gains last week.

Scott Halpin, who farms in Grundy County in northeastern Illinois, tells Brownfield…

“We do have a little bit of beans in on our farm and a little bit of corn, but that’s kind of typical for our area.”  He says, “I’d say I believe in general the whole state’s a little bit behind what we’d like to be at this point.”

The USDA’s latest weekly crop progress and condition report shows 32% of corn and 31% of soybeans are planted.  Halpin says the next available planting window will be busy.
