Broiler sets, placements climb higher

Broiler sets and placement continue to rise, implying higher production.

The USDA says 246.848 million eggs were set into incubators last week, an increase of 1.537 million from the previous week and 2% from a year ago, with the average hatchability continuing to hang around 79%.

189.692 million chicks hatched earlier this month went into the meat production system, slightly larger than the prior week and 2% above a year ago, with those birds heading to market early this summer.
