Back-to-back storm systems crossing the central Plains and upper Midwest will result in a protracted period of unsettled weather, which may include heavy rain and severe thunderstorms. The initial system, traversing the central Plains on Friday, will be in the vicinity of Lake Superior late Saturday.
The trailing storm, about 2 days behind, will chart a similar course. Five-day rainfall totals should reach 2 to 5 inches or more from the eastern Plains into the Mississippi Valley and the upper Great Lakes region.
