Week 2 GPAC Cross Country Runners of the Week

Jessica (Kampman) Walczak of Dordt University is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. Walczak, a senior from Abbotsford, British Columbia, helped lead the seventh-ranked Defenders to a second-place finish at their home meet, the Holiday Inn Express Sunflower Open. Walczak finished second overall and was the top NAIA runner in the field of 111 runners. The three-time NAIA All-American crossed the finish line with a 5K time of 17:48. This was Walczak’s 14th top 10 finish of her career.

Peter Shippy of Dordt University is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. Shippy, a senior from Sioux Center, Iowa, was a key ingredient in the second-ranked Defenders second-place finish at their home meet last weekend. Shippy, a returning NAIA All-American finished in fourth place overall and was the top NAIA runner in the field with an 8K time of 25:08. This was the highest ever finish for Shippy and the fifth top-ten showing of his career.
