Mikkelsen selected as First Team NAIA All-American

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Northwestern softball infielder Gwen Mikkelsen has been recognized by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as a First Team All-American, the national office announced this morning.

“What an accomplishment for this Northwestern softball team,” commented head coach Shane Bouman. “Gwen is an infectious leader that loves everyone and we love her. She is the perfect Red Raider! Hard work pays off.”

The 2023 GPAC Player of the Year, Mikkelsen (Jr., Casa Grande, Ariz.) led the league in batting average (.445), on-base percentage (.522), RBI (59), doubles (20), and walks drawn (26). She was a two-time GPAC Player of the Week and was also an NAIA Player of the Week.

Mikkelsen becomes the first Raider to earn NAIA All-American honors since Melanie Mason in 1997 (Note: NAIA does not recognize Honorable Mention selections as All-Americans).
