GREENWOOD, Ind. – Four Northwestern women’s basketball student-athletes have been recognized with College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors. Hali Anderson, Molly Schany, Maren Nerem, and Lexie Van Kekerix are Northwestern’s honorees, receiving accolades for their work on the court and in the classroom.
Anderson, a senior exercise science major from Saint Ansgar, Iowa, receives her second career CSC All-District selection. In her senior season, Anderson averaged career-highs in points (16.1), assists (5.9), and rebounds (5.1). She notched six double-doubles and a triple-double on the year, leading the team in assists and steals. Anderson closed the year sitting second in the GPAC in assists per game and sixth in points per game.
A three-time CSC Academic All-District selection, Schany closed her career as one of the most decorated players in program history. The senior physical education major averaged 16.5 points and 10.1 boards this season, all while holding a cumulative GPA of 4.0. She was one of two players in the conference to average a double-double, was fourth in the GPAC in scoring and second in rebounding. Schany ended her career with 2,214 points, which is eighth in program history, and 1,147 rebounds, second in program history. She is the fourth player in school history to collect 2,000 points and 1,000 boards.
Nerem, a senior nursing major from Edgerton, Minnesota, receives her first CSC award. She played all 30 games in her senior season, collecting nine starts. Nerem was fourth on the team in rebounding (3.9), closing her career with 506 points and 373 boards.
Van Kekerix, a senior exercise science major from Rock Valley, Iowa, receives her first CSC All-District honor. She averaged 9.1 points and 4.6 rebounds, playing in all 30 games with 28 starts. Known for her clutch shots in late-game situations, Van Kekerix hit game-winning or overtime-forcing shots twice this season.
Anderson and Schany will be placed among the nominees for CSC Academic All-America teams, voted on by members of the organization. Academic All-America teams will be announced on Wednesday, April 16.
