First NCC Thunder Men’s Golf Recruit Signswith Program

Sheldon, IA – Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) is proud to announce the signing of its first-ever men’s golf recruit, marking an exciting milestone as the College prepares to launch its men’s golf program.

Tavin Miller of Lakefield, Minnesota, has officially signed with the NCC Thunder. Miller, who will graduate from Jackson County Central High School this May, will pursue an Associate of Arts degree while competing for the Thunder.

“We’re excited to welcome Tavin as the first recruit for our men’s golf program,” said Eric Francis. “He represents the kind of student-athlete we’re looking for—someone who values both academics and athletics and is eager to be part of building something new at NCC.”

“I picked NCC because although it is small, the people there were very welcoming and made my visit feel like I was connecting with a new distant family,” Miller said.

Miller brings a strong background in the sport, having competed in golf throughout middle school and high school. In addition to school competition, he has participated in numerous local tournaments and competed on the U.S. Kids Golf Tour in Minneapolis.

“I’m excited to be part of something great and ready to make new friends and memories that last a lifetime,” Miller said. “I chose the Associate of Arts program because I believe the professors at NCC will help prepare me for whatever path I choose next in my education.” He also noted that NCC’s smaller class sizes stood out as an important factor in his decision, providing a more personalized learning environment.

Miller has also been awarded scholarship support to assist with his educational expenses. “Thankfully, I received scholarship money to help with school expenses, and it will really take some of the burden of paying for college away from my family,” he said.
