West Sioux School Board Discusses Staffing Issues

A special West Sioux School Board meeting was held on Thursday, with board members addressing staffing and administrative needs across the district.

A key topic centered on staffing in the middle school and high school math departments. The board ultimately decided to move forward with hiring a high school math teacher, rather than eliminating a position for the upcoming school year.

Board Vice President Larry Gregg said finding qualified educators in specialized areas like high school math continues to be a challenge. At the same time, he noted the district must balance staffing decisions with ongoing enrollment declines and look for opportunities to reduce staff when feasible.

The board also discussed the future of the assistant principal position in Ireton. Gregg said members recognize the importance of maintaining an administrative presence at Ireton Elementary, but agreed to hold off on any decisions until incoming superintendent Kurt Hanna can weigh in on the matter.
