Volunteer Land Annexation – Traffic Discussions Continue at City Council Meeting

The Sioux Center City Council met Monday at a regular meeting at city hall.  Among discussions was an update from Habitat for Humanity on their new home repair program.  Sioux County Liaison for Habitat for Humanity, Kurt Franje described guidelines for qualifications to the council.

The city council continues discussions on handling the Highway 75 traffic in town.  As work progresses on the highway, and as the rolling closures move north, city officials have mapped out a new truck embargo area in Sioux Center.  When construction begins on the intersection at 9th Street South and begins moving north, officials will consider a resolution to restrict semi-truck traffic east of Highway 75 from 9th Street South to 7th Street North.  That resolution will likely include truck restrictions west of Highway 75 as well, from 9th Street SW to 2nd Street SW.  There was also discussion about traffic along 1st Avenue SE in front of Sioux Center Christian School.  Officials are concerned with the high volume of traffic on that roadway during school hours.

The city council passed a resolution to annex property in north Sioux Center.  A voluntary annexation between the city, Doug Boer, and Rural Water will add a total of 196 acres for future development.

The council passed a resolution to dispose of property in the Biotech Park in north Sioux Center.  Another resolution was passed to sell that property to Diamond Edge Construction LLC., of Sioux Center.

Also, the city council approved a resolution to amendment the fiscal year 2023/24 Budget to reflect actual beginning fund balances and to adjust expenditures and associated revenues.  The next city council meeting is scheduled for June third.
