At Monday’s (December 30th) City Council Meeting, the Sioux Center City Council approved $11,000 in contributions to seven local organizations. These funds, provided by Sioux Center Municipal Utilities, will support a range of community services, from helping low-income families to promoting adaptive sports.
Utilities Manager Murray Hulstein said, “These organizations help Sioux Center and its residents thrive. Making these contributions is one way our community-owned utilities can give back to the community we serve.”
The contributions include: $7,500 to Mid-Sioux Opportunity for low-income heating assistance and self-sufficiency programs; $1,000 to ATLAS of Sioux Center for family services; $1,000 to the Center for Financial Education to assist in services they provide; $500 to Siouxland Adaptive Sports for their services and programs; $500 to Whispers of Love, Hope and Joy for domestic violence survivor support; $250 to Rising Arrows for their summer youth program, that serves over 130 students with various needs; $250 to Habitat for Humanity for affordable housing projects in northwest Iowa.
The City Council approved these contributions unanimously.
In other Council proceedings, the slate of administrative officers for 2025 was approved and given their oaths of office. That slate includes: Mayor Pro-Tem: Eric Moerman; City Attorney: Brian Van Engen; City Manager/City Clerk: Scott Wynja; Utilities Manager: Murray Hulstein; Treasurer: Darryl Ten Pas; Police Chief: Josh Koedam; and Fire Chief: David Van Holland.
Mayor Vander Berg administered the Oath of Office to the administrative officers at the meeting.
