Two Sheldon teens were taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 18 and Country Club Road in eastern Sheldon.
According to the Sheldon Police Department, the crash happened at about 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21.
Police say 55-year-old Curtis Van Voorst of Sioux Center was driving a 2023 Ford pickup pulling a trailer westbound on Highway 18. At the same time, 19-year-old Owen Brouwer of Sheldon was stopped at the intersection on Country Club Road in a 2018 Jeep SUV.
Authorities say Brouwer proceeded from the stop sign and entered the highway directly in front of the pickup and trailer. The vehicles collided, causing the Jeep to roll at least twice before coming to rest on its wheels.
Two Taken to Hospital
Brouwer and a passenger, 16-year-old Aspen Van Holland of Sheldon, were transported by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team (SCAT) to Sanford Sheldon Hospital. Their conditions have not been released.
Van Voorst’s pickup sustained an estimated $3,000 in damage, while Brouwer’s Jeep was considered a total loss with approximately $8,000 in damage.
Brouwer was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway.
Assisting at the scene were the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team, Sheldon Fire Company, Sheldon Emergency Management Agency, and the Iowa State Patrol.
