(KIWA) — A Tea, South Dakota, man is facing a felony domestic abuse charge following an alleged assault at Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort near Larchwood.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the Iowa State Patrol with the Lyon County Clerk of Court’s Office, 45-year-old Beau Christensen of Tea was arrested Wednesday after an incident involving his girlfriend at the casino hotel.
The state trooper who filed the complaint alleges Christensen placed his hands around the victim’s neck during the assault. According to the complaint, the victim told authorities she was unable to breathe while the alleged assault was taking place.
Christensen is charged with domestic abuse assault – impeding air or blood flow, a Class D felony. If convicted, the charge carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.
As of the latest available information, Christensen remained in the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids on a $6,000 cash or surety bond.
