Sioux Falls woman arrested for OWI after crash near Hawarden

A Sioux Falls woman was taken to a hospital and later arrested following a single-vehicle crash near Hawarden Thursday night.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened a few minutes before 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 19th, about two miles northeast of Hawarden on 420th Street.

Authorities report that 47-year-old Lisa Jo Nafziger of Sioux Falls was driving a 2021 Jeep Wrangler westbound when she lost control of the vehicle. The Jeep entered the north ditch and came to rest there.

Deputies say that following an investigation at the scene, they believe Nafziger was under the influence of alcohol.

Nafziger was transported by the Hawarden Ambulance to Hawarden Regional Healthcare for evaluation. After being released, she was taken into custody and transported to the Sioux County Jail.

She was charged with Operating While Intoxicated, first offense.

Authorities say the Jeep sustained no damage in the crash.

The Hawarden Police Department, Hawarden Ambulance, and the Hawarden Fire Department assisted the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.
