A Sioux Center woman faces multiple charges — including two felonies — following a traffic stop last Thursday.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Sioux County, 28-year-old Brookelyn Schelling was pulled over by Sioux Center Police after allegedly failing to obey a traffic control device. The officer reported smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle and noted that two children were inside, both strapped into car seats.
Police say Schelling admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle. A subsequent search turned up marijuana flower, a marijuana vape, and other drug paraphernalia.
Schelling is charged with two counts of child endangerment, each a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison per count if convicted. She also faces several misdemeanor charges, including operating under the influence of marijuana, possession of marijuana, and two counts of possession of cannabidiol.
Schelling was booked into the Sioux County Jail in Orange City and later released after posting a $5,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday, December 8.
