New data shows Sioux Center continues to stand out as a regional economic hub, with steady growth in retail sales and visitor spending driven by both local support and activity from across northwest Iowa.
According to figures from the Iowa Department of Revenue, Sioux Center recorded $252.9 million in taxable sales between July 2024 and June 2025, a 5.3% increase from the previous year. That marks growth in eight of the past ten years
Speaking on Sioux County Radio’s The Daily Grind last week, City Communications Coordinator Maggie Landegent says the annual report pulls together data from the state and Iowa State University Extension and helps illustrate the city’s broader economic draw.
Landegent noted that the report reflects only taxable sales and does not include sectors such as vehicle purchases, groceries, fuel, or medical services.
Despite those exclusions, Sioux Center’s per-capita taxable sales are 79% higher than the state average and 41 percent higher than peer cities, capturing trade equivalent to a community of more than 16,000 people.
City Manager Scott Wynja says that pull factor helps explain why Sioux Center continues to attract visitors, businesses, and development.
Visitor activity is also increasing. In 2024, Sioux County visitor spending rose 11.8%, the highest growth rate of any county in Iowa, with visitors spending an estimated $56.4 million in the county.
Wynja says strong retail performance directly benefits residents.
City officials say the data helps guide future planning for infrastructure, housing, and business growth, as Sioux Center works to maintain steady, healthy momentum.
