Sioux Center Man Faces Several Charges After Traffic Stop

A Sioux Center man was arrested on felony OWI, assault, and other charges after a traffic stop in Sioux Center on Sunday.

The incident started when an officer pulled over to follow 26-year-old Adelso Chavez Chavez.  When the officer pulled over, Chavez Chavez made an illegal U-turn and took off at a high rate of speed. Chavez Chavez stopped at a home, ran inside, and attempted to barricade the door. The officer attempted to force the door, and a fight ensued.

Chavez Chavez was charged with operating while intoxicated, third or subsequent offense, misdemeanor charges of assaulting an officer, interference with official acts, driving while revoked, driving without ignition interlock, driving while suspended, driving without a license, and the turning violation.

He faces a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, December 12th.

At last report, Chavez Chavez remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $5000 personal recognizance bond.
