A Sioux Center man faces two felony charges after police say he assaulted his teenage daughter during an argument Friday, October 16.
Wytse Theodoor Aalbers, 56, was arrested by the Sioux Center Police Department on charges of willful injury causing bodily injury and child endangerment resulting in bodily injury. Both charges are Class D felonies.
According to criminal complaints filed in Sioux County District Court, the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. at a Sioux Center residence.
Police say the 16-year-old girl reported that her father forcefully shoved her onto a couch during a verbal argument, then placed his hands around her neck and applied pressure to her throat, restricting her breathing.
The girl reported physical pain and difficulty breathing. Officers documented fresh red marks and bruising on her neck, which they described as consistent with pressure being applied to the front and sides of her throat.
According to the complaints, Aalbers told investigators he had lost control of the situation and acknowledged deliberately placing his hands around his daughter’s neck.
Jail records show Aalbers was arrested October 16 and released Saturday, October 17, after posting cash bond. His bond had been set at $10,000 cash or surety.
