A Sheldon woman was arrested early Sunday morning following a single-vehicle accident east of Maurice.
According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested 20-year-old Mackenzie Lynn McMahon of Sheldon at approximately 2:25 a.m. on April 12th.
Authorities say the arrest stemmed from a crash on 470th Street. Investigators determined McMahon was driving a 2020 Chevy Equinox eastbound when she lost control of the vehicle and entered the north ditch.
Following the investigation, deputies determined McMahon was under the influence of alcohol.
A passenger in the vehicle was transported by Orange City Ambulance to Orange City Area Health System for treatment of minor injuries.
McMahon was taken to the Sioux County Jail and charged with Operating While Intoxicated, First Offense, a serious misdemeanor. She was also charged with Open Container and Failure to Maintain Control, both simple misdemeanors.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Orange City Police Department and Orange City Ambulance.
Authorities remind the public that a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
