Rock Valley Sets Hearing on Tax Levy Tied to Flood Recovery

The City of Rock Valley will hold a public hearing on April 2nd on its proposed property tax levy, with city leaders citing flood recovery costs as a key factor in a planned increase.

The hearing is part of the city’s annual budget process and will allow residents to ask questions and provide input on the upcoming fiscal year.

City Administrator Tom Van Maanen says the proposed increase is largely tied to the debt the city has taken on following the 2024 flood.

Van Maanen says the impact for most homeowners is expected to be relatively limited.

Increase tied to temporary recovery costs

City leaders say the increase is not expected to be permanent.

Van Maanen says once FEMA reimbursements and other funding sources are received, the additional debt — and the resulting tax impact — should decrease.

He says those funding sources could include federal, state, and other disaster-related grants.

Public hearing set for April 2

The April 2nd hearing will allow residents to speak with city leaders about the proposed levy rate and how funds will be used as Rock Valley continues its recovery from the 2024 flood.
