Rock Valley Police Warn of Scam Spoofing Local Hospital Phone Number

The Rock Valley Police Department is alerting residents to a potential scam targeting the community, particularly older residents, using a familiar local phone number.

According to police, individuals have reported receiving phone calls that appear on the caller ID as coming from Hegg Health Center. During the call, the scammer claims to represent a local doctor and asks for the patient’s Medicare number, saying it is needed to provide diabetic supplies.

Authorities say those calls are fraudulent.

Hegg Health Center is not making those calls and would never request a patient’s Medicare number over the phone.

Police say the scam appears designed to target elderly residents, who may be more likely to trust a call that looks like it’s coming from a local healthcare provider.

Residents are urged not to share any personal or medical information over the phone, especially if the call is unsolicited.

If there are any doubts about a call’s legitimacy, officials recommend hanging up and contacting Hegg Health Center directly using a verified phone number.
